What to expect from therapy

In therapists’ terms, my counseling approach is existential, which means that I work together with you as you confront the hardest parts of existing as a human, and person-centered, which means that our work is guided by your own sense of who you are and where you want to go, with my support along the way. Throughout our time together, I help you build new skills using methods such as CBT and DBT. Both of these methods are geared toward identifying the connections between our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and learning to manage them more comfortably and effectively.

With an integrative approach, I hope to support you in realigning your mind, body, and spirit, to become more attuned to yourself and the world around you. I hope to assist you in identifying your own patterns, obstacles, and goals. This is hard work, and it would be an honor for me to walk through it with you.

Do you think of your anxiety as an enemy or a guide?

“Life cannot be lived nor can death be faced without anxiety. Anxiety is guide as well as enemy and can point the way to authentic existence. The task of the therapist is to reduce anxiety to comfortable levels and then to use this existing anxiety to increase a patient's awareness and vitality.”

— Irvin D. Yalom, Existential Psychotherapy
